Why did easyJet come to us?
easyJet required a comprehensive review and enhancement of their fatigue risk management systems and assessments. They sought to implement improvements to reduce the risk of fatigued pilots flying commercial aircraft. Additionally, easyJet needed a more effective Occupational Health service provider, better stress management procedures, and a solid commitment to the wellbeing of their staff. They aimed to address legal, performance, and reputational risks while improving overall staff morale.
What did we do?
- Fatigue Risk Management Review: Conducted a full review of easyJet’s fatigue risk management systems and assessments, implementing improvements to reduce the risk of fatigued pilots.
- Occupational Health Service Improvement: Replaced the external Occupational Health service provider with a more effective provider, establishing firm KPIs and SLAs to ensure compliance and improvement, thereby reducing legal, performance, and reputational risks and improving staff morale.
- Stress Management Procedures: Implemented stress management procedures and recording capabilities, enabling the airline to assess the long-term impact of stress and burnout in aviation.
- Wellbeing Policy Introduction: Introduced a Wellbeing Policy, firmly illustrating the airline’s commitment to the wellbeing, health, and safety of its employees.
- Recommendations to Senior Management and Trade Union: Made recommendations to senior management and the Trade Union body BALPA (British Airline Pilots Association).
- Improvement Plans and Communication: Implemented wellbeing, mental health, and H&S improvement plans and designed associated internal communications.
