What Everybody Should Know About Wellbeing

What Everybody Should Know About Wellbeing: SAWT’s 6-part special

Every day this week, we will be taking you on a journey through the world of wellbeing. Here’s Part 1!

First, let’s get to grips with what wellbeing is.

There are many informal definitions, but we see the most appropriate as being an integration of mental health and physical health, resulting in more holistic approaches to disease prevention and health promotion. It’s about taking a holistic view of an individual, looking at everything that makes up that person or affects them.

Is it just a passing fad?

This wellbeing stuff is not just a buzzword. So much of it is preventative. Looking after ourselves proactively is the best way to ensure that we don’t have to seek help reactively. Let’s head this off at the pass together by understanding what we can do to look after our wellbeing.

What are the core components of wellbeing that affect people at work?

We call this ‘The Wheel of Wellbeing’

  • Physical, e.g. sleep, nutrition, hydration, lifestyle, exercise
  • Mental, e.g. stress, anxiety, depression
  • Understanding Self
  • Personal Resilience
  • Physical Environment and Technology Management
  • Quality of Relationships

Each of these topics will be covered during the next week, so touch base with us each day to learn more.

There will be toolkits for individuals, managers and organisations. There will be plenty here for everyone!

See you tomorrow, when we’ll be starting off with Physical Wellbeing! See articles on Sleep, Exercise, Nutrition and Hydration.
